What's Happening This Month and Beyond

 

 

APRIL

 

April 22, 2008 (Tuesday)- Troop 10 Committee Meeting - 7:00-8:00 at All Souls' Church

 

 April 23, 2008 - No meeting -  school vacation

 

April 25, 2008 (Friday) - Eagle Court of Honor for Christopher P. - 7:00 p.m. at All Souls' Congregational Church - a reception will follow the ceremony.  Scouts participating in the ceremony should plan to be at the church by 5:30 p.m. for rehearsal.  Pizza will be served at the rehearsal.

 

April 26, 2008 (Saturday) - Adopt a Site Work Day at KSR - see note below

 

April 30, 2008 - Troop Meeting at Abe Lincoln School - 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  We will be finishing up the 30 fitness tests for the Personal Fitness Merit Badge.  If you are working on this badge, please don't miss this meeting.

 

MAY

 

May 7, 2008 - Troop Meeting -  7:00- 8:00 p.m. - We will be planning for the May camporee (See note below)  Any planning to attend the camporee should bring $25 for the cost of the food to this meeting.

 

May 10, 2008 (Saturday) - Hike for the Homeless - see note below

 

May 14, 2008 - Troop Meeting - 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. - We will be working on the Citizenship in the Nation Merit Badge at this meeting.  Those scouts not working on this merit badge will be working on designing a gateway for the camporee.

 

May 16 - 18, 2008 (Friday to Sunday) - Waldo District Camporee - Searsmont - see note below

 

May 21, 2008 - Troop Meeting - 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. - We will continue to work on requirements for the Citizenship in the Nation Merit Badge.

 

May 28, 2008 - Field Trip to Orono Pest Control Center at University of Maine - we will be leaving shortly after school to visit the Center.  We will then have dinner together at Pat's Pizza as part of the trip.  Details on transportation and cost will be posted later.

 

JUNE

 

June 4, 2008 - Troop Meeting - 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. - We will use this meeting to complete advancements and badge work for the Court of Honor.  We will also be holding Scout Master Conferences and Boards of Review.

 

June 11, 2008 - Court of Honor - details TBA

 

June 29 - July 8, 2008 - Summer Camp at KSR - If you have not done so already, please turn in your merit badge sign up forms as quickly as possible.  Merit badge classes are filled on a first-come-first-serve basis, so the sooner you get the form in, the better your chance at getting the classes that you want.

Meeting Place and Time - Unless otherwise posted, all meetings will be held at All Souls' Church and will begin at 7:00 p.m.

 

Adopt a Site Work Day at KSR - Saturday, April 26Our Troop has been assigned to do the spring maintenance at Rocky Ridge Campsite at KSR.  We need both scouts and parents to come to camp this Saturday morning to work on the site.  Lunch will be provided.  Please let Mr. Morrison know ASAP if you can come and work.  When we know who is interested in coming, we can try to work out car pools.

 

Boy Scout Swim - Swimming Merit Badge - This program begins Wednesday, April 30.  It will run each week on Wednesday from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the YWCA on Union Street.  The classes will finish before school ends.  Each participant who completes the classes will earn the Swimming Merit Badge.  Cost is $15.00 per scout.  You may register and pay the fee on the first night of class.

 

Hike for the Homeless - Saturday, May 10, 2008 - Our Troop is considering participation in this event as a service project to draw attention to the plight of the homeless.  We have a choice of 4 hiking routes, each of between 3 and 5 miles, that unite at the finish in downtown Bangor.  Please let us know at the next meeting if you are interested in participating in the hike.  We are going to ask the Troop Committee to sponsor us.  Parents and guests are welcome to walk with us at their own cost ($5.00 to register for the hike).  Please wear Class B shirts to the Hike.  More details on transportation, times and meeting places TBA.

 

Waldo District Camporee - May 16-18, 2008 (Friday - Sunday) - This is a fun-filled weekend for scouts of all ages.  To see a complete list of the activities, go to the KSR website and look under Districts/Waldo.  The brochure is several pages long.  We will be leaving Friday and returning sometime Sunday after breakfast.  The cost for the camporee is $25 per scout, to cover meals.  Mr. Morrison needs to have a definite headcount by April 28.  If you plan to attend the camporee, call or e-mail him to let him know your plans.  Money for the camporee is due at the May 7 troop meeting.  Please try to join us for this weekend.

 

Camping Checklists - We have posted several checklists for camping gear on the Scout's Area section of this website.  If you need some help in deciding what to pack, consult our lists.  Have we forgotten anything? Feel free to e-mail the webmaster with suggestions for updating the lists.

 

Contacting Mr. Morrison - If you have questions about scouting, or if you need to arrange for a scoutmaster conference, please feel free to contact Mr. Morrison at home up until 8:00 p.m.  If he is not there, please leave a message and he will get back to you. You can also e-mail him at any time of day at amorrison68@verizon.net.

 

Uniform and Handbook required for Scoutmaster Conference and Board of Review - any scout participating in a scoutmaster conference or board of review must be in class A uniform and must have his handbook with him.  No uniform - no handbook - no conference or board!
